The Law of Street Art: Copyrights, Contracts, and Other Considerations
STREET ART Post.jpg

Free Event Alert!

Denver’s vibrant neighborhoods are alive with street murals. These large-format art projects are valuable in our community, and they belie a number of important legal issues, including copyright, property ownership, use of street murals in other artistic or commercial depictions of street murals, and artists' moral rights in their expressions.

As part of CRUSH WALLS 2020, Zach Warkentin of Warkentin LLC and Dave Ratner of Creative Law Network will present on fundamental copyright and other legal issues for street muralists, property owners, and anyone else involved in street art. This event is presented in coordination with the Colorado Bar Association's Sports and Entertainment Section and RiNo Art District.

Chicken vs. The Egg: What Comes First — Product Development or Patent Protection

Thursday, September 17, 2020 4:00 - 5:30 PM

Equal parts product development and intellectual property might be the recipe to success for you, but what comes first? Come listen in as we chat about different situations that call for a different approach. Dave Eyvazzadeh of Voz Patents, Schuyler Livingston of Link Product Development, and Dave Ratner or Creative Law Network chat about their chicken vs. egg views of the world surrounding physical products. Not sure where to start? Product Development, Trademarks, or Patents? That's exactly what we plan to dig into.

Schuyler Livingston designs products from sketch to manufacture on a small team of talented designers and engineers. The goal — to improve the lives of the people that interact with their products in a wide range of industries including medical, toys, housewares, bikes, electronics, and other outdoor goods.

Dave Ratner channeled his passion for music – and all creative arts – into Creative Law Network, a law firm built specifically for creative professionals. And he built a team at Creative Law Network that is passionate about the arts, ensuring creative work is protected, and helping creatives leverage the law to maximize the value of their work.

Dave Eyvazzadeh spent years cutting his teeth on the development of new technology, prior to becoming a patent agent. With years of product development experience and dual degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Dave holds an innate ability to view problems and products from multiple perspectives. He now uses that background and ability to help others protect their inventions.

Youth on Record is a great non-profit organization that uses music to support the young people of Denver in their educational journey.

We've contacted our state officials and will continue to fight to keep our independent venues alive. The National Independent Venue Association has great resources and makes writing to your legislators about funding for these venues quick and easy! Denver Startup Week submission are up for vote! Make sure to vote for our event with Colorado Attorneys for the Arts: Can I Post/Use/Share This? How to Legally Use Creative Content Online

We operate in a virtual marketplace of video and design where creative content reigns. In 2020, we've seen an explosion of online content in all sectors. When creating online media using third-party content, you have to ask yourself: Can I post this? Do I have the rights to use this music in my promo video? Can I use this photo on my webpage? Do I have permission to share this [video, song, image] on my [website, social media, blog]? This presentation will explain the law and concepts that underlie the answers to these questions. The interactive conversation will provide general guidance on integrating and distributing content on digital platforms as well as basic copyright and licensing concepts. Presented by Colorado Attorneys for the Arts (CAFTA), this presentation will be led by Dave Ratner.
